Lone Wolf Assault - Gone are the days of lugging a bulky 30-pound steel climber through the woods. The Lone Wolf Stands Hand Climber “Combo” weighs only 14.7 kilograms and folds flat like a book for easy transport. I bought this wooden stand a year ago and just finished a full hunting season. I do a lot of public hunting and often find myself crossing swamps to get back to where hunting pressure is minimal. It takes an easy, smooth setup to slide through the undergrowth, minimizing the chance of my stand getting caught in the brush. If you are looking to buy a tree climbing stand, this could be the one for you. Here are the facts you need to know before you decide.

The rack retails for $379.99 and is one of several options Lone Wolf offers in the rock climbing rack category. This stand is very popular with public hunters and private hunters who want to use a mobile hunting strategy. Although the price may seem steep, the old saying "you get what you pay for" couldn't be truer in this case. If I'm going to invest the extra money in any gear, I want it to be a platform that can hold me securely 30 feet up a tree!

I've used this stock in swamps in Mississippi and in the mountains of North Carolina, but my favorite memory with this stock is my first public deer harvest sitting in a 6' persimmon tree in a Mississippi swamp in October! I backed up 3 miles to get to the deer without pressure and have hunted it over 30 times this season. My stand climbed a variety of trees, from small oaks with hard bark to large pines with shaggy bark.

Lone Wolf Climbing Sticks [review]

The Lone Wolf Hand Climber Combo has a die-cast aluminum leg and seat that is very strong and not too bulky. They feel very durable and have a light gray non-reflective matte finish to eliminate any glare. The frames containing the wooden belt are made of aluminum above and below. The flat dark brown also makes this stand stealthy. I installed Stealth Outdoors Stealth Strips cam on the aluminum frame. Now there is no noise at all when the two parts touch.

There are swivel sleeves on both sides of the seat platform to accommodate the belt. These fingers can be folded back about 100 degrees, making it easy to fold the stand. When climbing, be sure to hold the seat in place between these arms so that the angle of the bite against the tree is not disturbed by the rotation of the platform.

The foot platform has a collapsible frame with a sliding tension nut on both sides. These turnbuckles must be loosened to extend the frame and tightened before climbing. One problem I had with these tension nuts was that I didn't tighten them enough. They came loose after my foot pressed on them while climbing the tree and the foot platform was in danger of collapsing. There is a simple solution to this problem. Strip these nuts and hand tighten them as tight as you can before climbing and they will hold enough for climbing.

The "V" bite area of both platforms is sharp enough to anchor the stand into the bark of most tree species. Lone Wolf climbers' wooden harnesses do not use pegs or holes to adjust cable length, and there is no exposed metal. These polymer belts have an inner steel core, a flat outer side, and an inner side covered with U-grooves into which the cams snap. The overall width of the stand and the length of the cables make the Lone Wolf Hand Climber ideal for smaller trees. Lone Wolf recommends trees 6 to 19 inches in diameter. Personally, I have found that 8-12 inch trees are ideal for this climbing frame.

When you reach the desired height, simply tighten the tension strap that connects both sides of the seat platform to the lower platform. This distributes the weight from your feet to the seat and keeps it firmly planted against the tree no matter how hard you bump into it. It's a solid design, which I like. It should be integrated with all climbers as it eliminates unwanted noise by preventing the seat platform from falling onto the foot platform.

This stand won't sleep comfortably, but it might be the best. The design is optimized for places most people can't reach and doesn't sacrifice weight or space for convenience. The seat measures 12" x 16" and the cushion is up to 1 inch thick. While it's not the most comfortable seat on the market, it's fine for this application, and you'll probably need to stand up from time to time to rest your sit muscles. The foot platform is relatively small at 19.5 by 26 inches. Once you've dropped the bow into the built-in bow holder between your legs, there's little room to move. Although there is still enough room to turn around and get shot from behind. I wear a size 11 shoe and when I stand straight on the seat my toes are level with the end of the stand.

Its lightweight and flat profile (only 4 inches thick) makes this tripod a joy to carry around in a backpack. I would recommend upgrading the backpack straps that come with this stand as they are just a strap that is uncomfortable to wear. I replaced mine on eBay with a surplus military Molle webbing and waist belt and now even after walking a mile or two I forget I'm wearing this rack!

Lone Wolf Assault

I highly recommend this climbing stand to anyone who values mobility in their hunting arsenal. It is a light, compact and well-made product that will last for years. Remember, this tripod isn't designed to be a lazy boy in the sky, but an efficient piece of equipment for climbing at high altitudes while being miles off the beaten path!

If you're looking for a lightweight and generally decent stand for running and hunting with a shotgun, you might want to consider the Lone Wolf Assault II Wood Stand. The stand weighs only 11 pounds, making it one of the lightest stands on the market. We all know that the more lighters you bring to hunt in the woods, the better. This stand gives you that light factor that we are all looking for. The platform is the right size for easy standing, measuring 26" x 19.5" I spent many hours on this stand and felt like there was plenty of room to warm up and be able to maneuver to shoot the deer at the right angle.

One of my favorite features is the built-in bow hanger, which I didn't know was included when I bought it. It was a pleasant surprise and now I don't have to carry an extra hanger when I use this stand. There are a few tricks you can use to make your bow quieter on and off the stand. I suggest you practice before you hit the field. The seat that comes with the stand is a decently comfortable seat, however after two seasons I opted for a thicker seat that was more comfortable for me to sit and rest on all day.

Attaching it to the tree is also quite simple. It takes about 10 minutes for me to be 100% in the rack. The Lone Wolf Assault II Tree Stand Backpack also features carrying straps, making it much easier to carry everything
